Joseph Hunter

Joseph Hunter(1783 to 1861) was a Unitarian Minister, an antiquarian, and the deputy keeper of public records who is now best remembered for publications like Hallamshire, The History and Topography of the Parish of Sheffield in the County of York, and the two-volume South Yorkshire (a history of the Deanery of Doncaster). They are among the best writings on the history of Sheffield and South Yorkshire. In 1852 he authored a pamphlet about Robin Hood which argued that a servant of that name in the court of Edward II was one and the same as the famous outlaw. The Hunter Archaeological Society used his name.
