Joseph Fort Newton
Joseph Fort Newton (1880 to 1950) was an American Baptist minister who was born in Decatur, Texas. As the son of a Baptist minister he was educated at Southern Baptist Seminary, and at Harvard University, where he studied under William James. Newton was awarded honorary degrees of Doctor of Hebrew Literature (from Coe College in 1912), Doctor of Divinity (from Tufts University in 1919), Doctor of Humane Letters (from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in 1926), and a Doctor of Laws from Temple University in 1929.
