John Homer
John Homer (1781 to 1836) was a merchant and political figure in Nova Scotia who between 1826 and 1836 represented Barrington township in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. He was born in Barrington, and went off to sea at a early age. At the age of 17 he became a resident of the US and in 1812 married Elizabeth B. White. Returning to Barrington in 1814, Homer became involved in the fishing trade which he conducted with the West Indies, the United States, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway and Sweden, and was president of the Barrington Agricultural Society. After the death of his first wife in 1823 he married Nancy Crocker, and in 1834 published A brief sketch of the present state of the province of Nova-Scotia, with a project offered for its relief.
