J. Munsell
Joel Mansell (born in Northfield, Massachusetts, April 14, 1808; died in Albany, New York, January 15, 1880), was a US printer, publisher, and author. He became a printer in Albany in 1827. He edited and published Albany Minerva in 1828, was Assistant Editor of Microscope in 1834, and also the publisher and editor of New York State Mechanics from 1841 to 1843. He subsequently published Ladies Magazine, The North Star and Freeman’s Lawyer, Spectator, Unionist, Albany State Register, Security, New York Teacher, Morning Express and statesman , "Webster Almanac", "Statesman Daily" and three years "New." Historical and Genealogical Register of England. Mansell carefully studied the printing craft, its history and application, and its largest collection of works on this subject, the largest in America, was partially bought by New York State for the New York State Library. His printing and publishing activities were continued by his sons. He was elected a member of the American Antique Society in 1854.
