Henry Maundrell
Henry Moundrell (1665-1701) was an academician at the University of Oxford, and then a clergyman of the Church of England, who from December 20, 1695 served as chaplain in the company of the Levant in Syria. His Journey from Aleppo to Jerusalem on Easter 1697 (Oxford, 1703), originating in the diary that he carried with him during the Easter pilgrimage to Jerusalem in 1697, has become a frequently reprinted “classic of small travel. "It has been included in tourist book collections from the mid-18th century, and has been translated into three additional languages: French (1705), Dutch (1717) and German (1792). By 1749, the seventh edition was printed.
