Harrison Cady
Walter Harrison Cady (1877-1970) was an American illustrator and author, best known for his Peter Rabbit comic, which he wrote and painted for 28 years. Cady was born in Gardner, Massachusetts, to city breeder Edwin Cady, who ran a local department store. His father fostered a love of nature and encouraged his artistic skills. Cady entered an internship with local artist Parker Perkins. His first publication appeared back in 1894: an illustration in addition to Harper's Young Men (signed by Walter H. Cady). Harrison was 18 years old when his father was killed in Boston. He moved to New York and within a year found a job as an illustrator in the Brooklyn Eagle newspaper. His salary of $ 10 a week allowed him to support his mother; they lived in a cold-water apartment in Greenwich Village. He stayed in the Brooklyn Eagle for four years and also worked in other publications.
