Geo. Coleman Gow


George Coleman Gow (1860-1938). George was the son of George Board­man Gow and Lu­cy Ann Mars­ton, and hus­band of Grace D. Ches­ter (mar­ried 1901). His ear­ly ed­u­ca­tion was in the pub­lic schools of Wor­ces­ter, Mas­sa­chu­setts, and at the Wor­ces­ter Acad­e­my. He gra­du­at­ed from the Pitts­field, Mas­sa­chu­setts School of Mu­sic (1880); Brown Un­i­ver­si­ty, Pro­vi­dence, Rhode Is­land (1884); and the New­tonThe­o­lo­gi­cal Se­mi­na­ry (1889). Gow taught har­mo­ny and coun­ter­point at Smith Col­lege, North­amp­ton, Mas­sa­chu­setts; stu­died in Ber­lin, Ger­ma­ny (1892-93); and was head of the Mu­sic De­part­ment at Vass­ar College, Pough­keep­sie, New York (1895-1932). Died January 12, 1938.
