Clemence Dane


Clemence Dane was the pseudonym used by Winifred Ashton (21 February 1888 to 28 March 1965), who was an English novelist and playwright. Having completing her education, Dane travelled to Switzerland for work as a French tutor, but soon returned home. After the Great War she taught at a girls' school and began write. She assumed the pseudonym "Clemence Dane" named after the church, St Clement Danes that stands on the Strand in London.
