Charles Chiniquy
Charles T. Chiniquy (July 30, 1809 - January 16, 1899) was a Canadian Catholic priest who converted to Presbyterianism and became an anti-Catholic preacher. Between 1885 and 1899 he was at the center of a great deal of controversy in the United States. Born in 1809 in the village of Kamouraska, Quebec. he lost his father at the age of twelve and was adopted by his uncle Amable Dionne. He studied at the Petit Séminaire de Nicolet from 1822. Ordained a priest in 1833, he began his career in Quebec where he was successively a priest in the parishes of Saint-Roch, Beauport and Kamouraska.
