C. D. Yonge

Charles Duke Yonge (November 30, 1812 - November 30, 1891) was an English historian, classicist and cricketer. He wrote many works of modern history and translated several classic works. His younger brother was George Edward Yonge. Charles Duke Yonge was born in Eton, Berkshire, on November 30, 1812. He was baptized on December 25, 1812. He was the eldest of the eight children of Rev. Charles Young (1781-1830) and Elizabeth Lord (? -1868). His parents got married on December 4, 1811. His grandparents were Duke Yonge and Katherine Crowley on his father's side, and Joseph Lord and Corbett Owen from South Wales Pembroke on his mother's side. He was educated at Eton College. At eighteen, he became a research fellow at King's College, Cambridge from 1831 to 1833. On May 17, 1834, he attended St. Mary's Hall in Oxford, which was an addict and then admitted to Oriel College. Graduated with honors from first grade B.A. in the classics in December 1834. In 1874, he received a master's degree from Kebl College. As a cricketer, during the 1836 season for Oxford University, he won 85 runs in three matches and caught one player.
