Benjamin Wills Newton (December 12, 1807 - June 26, 1899) was an English evangelist, author of Christian books, and leader of the Plymouth Church. His congregation and others around Plymouth became known as the Plymouth brothers. Newton was a friend of John Nelson Darby, a well-known leader of the Plymouth brothers, but the two men began to conflict over church doctrine and practice. This led to the division of the 1848 movement into Open Brothers and Exclusive Brothers. Newton was born in Plymouth Dock, Devon in a family of Quakers. His father died shortly before the birth of Benjamin. Newton did not have brothers and sisters. He studied at Exeter College in Oxford, where he received a 1st degree classic in 1828 and became a member of the college.
