Albrecht Ritschl

Albrecht Ritschl (25 March 1822 to 20 March 1889) was a German Protestant author and theologian. From 1852 Ritschl lectured on "Systematic Theology", and according to this approach, faith could be understood to be irreducible to other experiences, and beyond the scope of reason. Faith, he would say, came not from facts but rather from value judgments. Thus, Jesus' divinity could best be understood as expressing the "revelational-value" of Christ for the community that trusts in him as God.
