Book description

West Irish folk-tales and romances – is a collection of folk tales written by William Larminie, an Irish poet and folklorist of 19th century. The fairy tales included in this volume form part of a large collection, which the author began to compose as early as 1884. This is a collection of stories that the author has collected from local residents of County Donegal, County Mayo, and County Galway. All were recorded by the author word for word under the dictation of the peasant storytellers, with the exception of two, which were recorded by Mr. Lecky in exactly the same way; difficult and questionable parts are repeated over and over again. It is said that the beauty of Scottish landscapes is reflected in the picturesqueness of Scottish tales. The author, not without hope, that such an influence has brought something similar to those presented here to the reader.
