Book description

Thermodynamics – is the book which published in 1907 and written by George Hartley Bryan. He was an English mathematician and mechanic, professor of mathematics at Bangor University College in Wales. Bryan was best known for his work in aerodynamics and aircraft theory. Also he was the one of the pioneers of aviation research. Thermodynamics is a branch of physics that focuses on the study of the most general properties of systems and the transfer and transformation of energy into such objects. The subjects of the study of thermodynamics are states and processes, for the description of which the concept of temperature can be introduced. Thermodynamics is a phenomenological science based on generalizations of experimental facts. This book is an introductory treatise dealing mainly with first principles and their direct applications. When the author accepted an invitation to write an article on the general foundations of thermodynamics, it was decided that the article should deal, as far as possible, exclusively with the laws of thermodynamics and the consequences directly derived from them, and that all the properties of specific substances and states that depended in part on experimental knowledge or other hypotheses should be left for another article. The author had long felt the need for a book that dealt with thermodynamics by purely deductive methods, and his aim in the following pages was to develop the subject even more in this direction than was possible in an article that purported to be in some way an exposition of history and current state of knowledge of the subject.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this. It's a nice, easy read that was quite pleasant.
