Book description
The scheme of this work by the author is as follows.
After two introductory chapters, in which the author simply repeats well-known facts, he considers in detail, using evidence as original as the author has managed to collect in each case, the following points:
1. Nunkomar's accusation of corruption against Hastings.
2. The conspiracy charge brought by Hastings and the Mohun Persaud charge against Nunkomar and the trial against him up to trial.
3. The process itself.
4. Circumstances related to the trial, which are not obvious to the proceedings, but were proven long before by the Impeachment Committee, including efforts made to save Nunkomar and his execution.
5. Events following the execution of Nuncomar, including various transactions that took place in the Council and communications between the Council, the Supreme Court, the East India Company and the Secretary of State.
All this happened from March 1775 to early 1776.
6. The author describes the impeachment procedure, his defense against the charge against Nunkomar and the refusal of the House of Commons to impeach him, and gives his own opinion on the outcome of each part of the charge. The debate over his impeachment took place from December 1787 to May 1788.
7. The author reports to some extent about other articles of Impee's impeachment and the circumstances from which they arose, in particular the dispute between the Supreme Court and the Council.
