About the Book
The Essays Of Elia – written by Charles Lamb, an English essayist, poet, and antiquarian. Charles Lamb's essays were very popular and printed extensively throughout the nineteenth century. The personal and conversational tone of the essay fascinated many readers. His essays secured him the title he now holds as one of the most delightful English essayists. Charles Lamb himself is the Elia of the collection, and his sister Mary Ann Lamb is "Cousin Bridget". In an essay on the South Sea House, Charles Lamb first used the pseudonym Elia. When he worked there, an Italian with the name Elia worked with him at the same time. After this essay, this name stuck. This collection is part of The Riverside Literature Series and published in 1907. Also his edition contains a biographical sketch of Charles Lamb.
