About the Book

There are probably very few sane people who would want to write a story about racial conflict and unrest. For me it was not a pleasure, but a duty. It seemed to many of us that those novelists who chose this theme had spent too much of their time speculating about the inferiority of blacks and too little blaming our white lepers for turning the disaster into a tick of dynamite. The purpose of this book is not to call a Negro a "black beast" and an Aryan a "white angel", but to give a fair interpretation of those tremendous forces that turn the problem of our national race into a veil or a powder mine, as Providence can define. The LAW OF THE WHITE CIRCLE is a case study, not a “problem novel,” and if read with thoughtful justice, perhaps a justification for its existence can be found. It's not to delight or dazzle, but to get readers thinking, perhaps to help them understand "THE END".
