Book description
Thomas Aquinas was an Italian philosopher and theologian, canonized by the Catholic Church as a saint, systematizer of orthodox scholasticism, teacher of the Church, Doctor Angelicus, Doctor Universalis, "princeps philosophorum" ("prince of philosophers"), founder of Thomism, member of the Dominican order; since 1879 he has been recognized as the most authoritative Catholic religious philosopher who linked the Christian doctrine (in particular, the ideas of St. Augustine) with the philosophy of Aristotle.
He formulated five proofs of the existence of God.
Recognizing the relative independence of natural being and human reason, he argued that nature ends in grace, reason - in faith, philosophical knowledge and natural theology based on the analogy of existence - in supernatural revelation.
An inexhaustible source of study and contemplation, a truth that embodies, as it were, the very essence of Christianity, often mentioned in Holy Scripture, but too rarely touched by modern preachers, even when it turns to the chosen souls, whose only desire is to delve deeper and deeper into the secrets of the Kingdom of God sweet and comforting dogma about the abiding of the Holy Spirit in the souls of the righteous.
This beautiful teaching, so beloved by the fathers and so often heard in their mouths in sermons to believers and in disputes with opponents of the divinity of the Word and the Holy Spirit, was reverently received by the theologians of the Middle Ages and especially by the greatest of them, the prince of scholasticism, the angelic physician, St. Thomas Aquinas.
St. Thomas made this teaching like his own and marked it with his seal, setting it down with all the accuracy of theological terminology.
