Book description
The Government Of Religious Communities - is a work, which was published in 1919 and written by Hector Papi, an Italian Jesuit and canon lawyer.
In their work on “Religious Profession”, the authors mentioned their intention to publish the treatise “Religious Vows.”
Since then, they have come to the decision that instead of teaching about vows, it would be preferable to choose the section of the Code dealing with religion, as they did in their previous work.
This was also done in order to satisfy the many requests that have come from various sources since the publication of the first book.
The main theme of this publication is "The Government of Religious Communities", taken from the Tenth Title of the Second Book of the Code.
The Title on "The Establishment and Suppression of Religious Communities" (Institutes, Provinces, Houses), which in the Code precedes the heading on their government, is so closely connected with the latter and so important that we thought it should not be omitted.
These two headings will be preceded by the preliminary opinion "Religious communities and their members", with which the Code opens this part on religion.
This work covers fifty-one canons, distributed as follows: five in the Preliminary on "Religious Communities and Their Members," as well as seven in the First Title on "The Establishment and Suppression of Religious Institutes, Provinces and Houses," and thirty-nine in the Second Title on "Government of Religious Communities".
In addition, this work will also cover those canons that are not included in this section of the Code, but which are referred to in the canons directly related to this issue, such as the canons on "Elections and Christian Burial."
The religious canons also apply to diocesan assemblies in which the three religious vows are taken, unless otherwise follows from the context or substance of the case.
This statement is sufficiently supported by the fact that these congregations fall under the definition given in the Code of religious institutions.
Moreover, in some canons the Code explicitly mentions them, and does so not as if other canons do not deal with them, but because their status as diocesan assemblies required special provisions.
