Book description

The fables of Aesop – is a second part of this work, which was published in 1889. These fables were first printed by William Caxton in 1484 with those of Avian, Alfonso and Poggio, now again edited and induced by Joseph Jacobs. William Caxton was an English pioneer publisher who founded the first printing house in London in the 1470s near Westminster Abbey. Also Caxton was the first to translate Aesop's Fables. Joseph Jacobs was an English literary critic, folklorist, historian, statistician and public figure. He was considered one of the best English folklorists. Aesop's Fables is a collection of fables attributed to Aesop, a tale-teller and slave who supposedly lived in Ancient Greece between 620 and 564 BC.
