The Arab, the Horse of the Future

The Arab: the horse of the future – is a book published in 1905 and written by James Boucaut. He was a South Australian politician and Australian judge. He owned an estate at the foot of Mount Barker, where he bred purebred Arabian horses in retirement. His passion for Arabian horses prompted him to write this book about them. According to the author, the Arab is the horse that laid the foundation for all the best riding horses in England, America, India and the continent. At the time of publication of this book, more than 4,000 different works in different languages have been devoted to the horse, including about ninety in Arabic and Persian, specifically dedicated to the Arab breed. A careful study of the history of horses shows that since Julius Caesar visited our shores almost 2000 years ago, there have been two different types of horses in England, namely the light horse and the heavy horse. There can be no doubt about the importance of the role that Arab horses have played in the development of all of our light horse breeds.
