Tales of a Vanishing River, Illustrated by the Author

Tales of the Vanishing River is a collection of nine humorous and witty stories by Earl Howell Reed. The action takes place on the Kankakee River, located in the northwest of Indiana and its surroundings. The title of the book reflects the drainage of the marshes along the Kankakee River, which occurred at the beginning of the 20th century. This collection was conceived as an interpretation of life along the river, which the author has become acquainted with during his many years of exploring the region. Place names and characters were changed for the reason that, although efforts were made to adhere to artistic truth, literary liberty was used with facts when they did not seem important to the story. This book is decorated with 14 illustrations drawn by the author himself.
