Book description

Renascence, and other poems – is a collection of poems, which was published in 1917 and written by American lyrical poet and playwright, Edna St. Vincent Millay. "Renascence" is a poem that is considered to have introduced the poet to the wider world, and is often considered one of her finest poems. The poem is a lyrical poem of over two hundred lines, written in the first person and broadly covering man's relationship to humanity and nature. The narrator contemplates the view from the top of the mountain. Stunned by nature and thoughts of human suffering, the narrator sympathetically experiences someone else's death, feels himself pressed into the grave. Friendly rain brings the narrator back to the joy of life - rebirth or "Renascence". In 1912, Edna St. Vincent Millay at the age of 19, inspired by her mother, submitted her poem "Rebirth" to the poetry competition in the "Lyric Year". In addition to the title poem, the collection includes eighteen poems.
