Book description
Plotinus was an ancient idealist philosopher, major Hellenistic philosopher and the founder of Neoplatonism.
Plotinus is primarily remembered for his teachings, which Porfiry collected in a collection called The Enneads. In this work, Plotinus talks about the religions and cults of his era.
He was interested in the occult, but only impartially and speculatively.
Plotinus was indifferent to traditional paganism, but was critical of heretic Gnostic Christians who preached a mystical dualism of the divine, which he considered antiphilosophical, anti-Greek and emotional superstition.
His own religious convictions leaned toward the idea that spiritual union with goodness can be achieved through philosophical reflection.
Good, in this case, is understood as Plato's idea of the perfect kingdom of the ideal.
