John Galsworthy was an English novelist and playwright, author of the famous cycle "The Forsyte Saga", winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature. The first play in the book is "The Silver Box", which tells about the theft of the purse of a prostitute by a rich "young man from a good family" is placed next to the theft of a silver cigarette case from the house of the rich man's father by a "poor devil" with very different consequences, although justice clearly triumphed in each case.
