Mosquitos and Malaria: A Summary of Knowledge on the Subject Up to Date, with an Account of the Natural History of Some Mosquitos

Mosquitos and Malaria – is a work which was published in 1900 and written by Cuthbert Christy. He was an English zoologist and doctor who conducted extensive explorations in Central Africa in the first half of the 20th century. The topic of the connection between mosquito prevalence and malaria prevalence, discussed in the following pages, should be considered, when fully understood, as extremely important for much of the earth's surface. The purpose of this work is to provide, in the form of a small reference book, a concise and convenient presentation of knowledge on the topic of mosquitoes and malaria today. Originally written for use only in India and published in Bombay, this work has been revised to make it suitable for wider distribution. The malaria parasite - the cause of malaria - is a microscopic amoeboid parasite that lives inside red blood cells, rather than freely in the bloodstream like some other blood parasites. This parasite, discovered by Dr. Laveran in 1880, is, according to Dr. Patrick Manson, the most important parasite in tropical pathology. It not only causes serious and fatal fevers, but, through its debilitating effects, undermines the health of millions of people; and, directly or indirectly, it is the leading cause of death in the tropics and subtropics. This book consists of six full-page plates and nine chapters.
