Book description

In addition to describing the physical appearance of the country and the institutions of its inhabitants, the author gave a short sketch of the history of Montenegro, which, without pretending to be researched, will, in his opinion, be new for most readers of that time. Despite trying to avoid all hints of purely party politics, politics itself could not be avoided, since politics is just another name for the history of the present. The book is divided into two main parts, where the first part is devoted to the country and people of Montenegro, and the second part is devoted to the history of Montenegro. The first part consists of information about the name of the country, its borders, geography, geology, climate, politics, population, state structure, etc. The second historical part consists of chapters such as: Montenegrin History until the Battle of Kossova; Montenegro an Independent Principality (1389-1516); The Legend of Stanicha; Montenegro under the Prince-Bishops: Period the First, Elective Bishops (a.d. 1516-1696); Hereditary Prince-Bishops — Danilo Petrovic; The Vladikas Sava and Vassali (a.d. 1735-1782); Peter I (1782-1830); Peter II (1830-1851); Restoration of the Secular Rule — Danilo II; Nicholas I (1860). This old history of Montenegro will be interesting from a historiography point of view.
