Book description
The rapid exhaustion of the first edition, published in 1912, as well as the need for demonstrations of novocaine-suprarenin anesthesia - without which the Dental Society meeting program is no longer complete - enthusiastic essays appearing periodically in dental journals, an invitation to Dr. Fisher, presented by American dental institutions for lectures and demonstrations of this specialty, as well as subsequently formed training clubs for the further dissemination of its doctrines among professionals - all this seems to be convincing evidence that a genuine interest was aroused among local residents in anesthesia with novocaine-suprarenine for dental practice.
This anesthesia is more and more widely used in general surgery for operations in which a few years ago only general anesthesia was considered possible.
As with all dental surgeries, uniform and flawless success can only be reasonably expected if the physiological and anatomical prerequisites on which the proposed methods are based are fully taken into account, and if the strict requirements of asepsis are strictly adhered to in the smallest detail.
This American edition (second) which was published in 1914 is based on the new German edition (third).
In the revision, every effort has been made to condense and edit the text, and to include many changes and improvements based on the most authoritative knowledge and the best and most practical procedures.
The tools and techniques for obtaining accurate and safe solutions have been improved and simplified, and the methods and points of injection have been even more fully explained in the texts and figures.
Particular attention was paid to isotonia, asepsis and conductive anesthesia, the latter method of which all experienced operators have become addicted to.
As far as relevant, other local and general anesthetic agents and methods were considered.
The German text has been freely translated and numerous practical additions have been made.
This was done with the full consent of Dr. Fischer, to whom the editor owes many memorable hours of discussion and personal friendship in the preparation of this volume.
