Life in the Far West

Life in the Far West – is a book which was published in 1851 as second edition and written by George Frederick Ruxton. He was a British explorer and travel writer of 19th century. Life in the Far West was first proposed for insertion in Blackwood's Magazine in the spring of 1848, when most of the manuscript was sent and the rest soon followed. At the time of publication in this periodical, the wildness of adventure aroused suspicion in certain circles as to its truth and fidelity. The reader may be interested to know that the scenes described are pictures from life, the result of the author's personal experience. Life in the Far West is a veritable chronicle of the harsh mountain people, whose courage and complete disregard for personal safety and comfort opened the Far West to a stream of settlers who were to follow them.
