Historical plays for children – is a book which was published on 1909 and written by Amice MacDonnell. This book features four historical plays like Alfred The Great, Robin Hood, The Armada and The Enterprise Of The "Mayflower". The first play is dedicated to Alfred the Great who was king of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Wessex (871-899). He is also a saint of the Church of England and a national hero of England. The first Anglo-Saxon ruler of Britain began to call himself King of England. The second play about Robin Hood, the popular hero of medieval English folk ballads, the noble leader of the forest robbers. The Enterprise Of The "Mayflower" is a play about an English merchant ship "Mayflower" on which the British crossed the Atlantic Ocean in 1620 and founded the Plymouth Colony, one of the first British settlements in North America. All four plays are detailed. Each of these historical pieces is accompanied by stage directions, properties, dresses and characters represented. The book also includes illustrations by the author.
