This book is a new edition of the “Handbook of Plant Dissection” which was originally published in 1886 and written by Joseph Charles Arthur, Charles Reid Barnes and John Merle Coulter. All of them were prominent American botanists. Due to the fact that since the publication of 1886, the methods of studying plants and knowledge about the plant kingdom have changed greatly and it was decided to completely rewrite this work. The original authors could not do this, and it was entrusted to do it to someone whose contact with laboratory work on elementary morphology was more recent and proved to be successful in all respects - Otis William Caldwell. This edition was revised and rewritten by Otis William Caldwell, an American botanist and Professor of Botany in the Eastern Illinois State Normal School. The book is new, although developed in accordance with the old plans, and it will satisfy the existing demand much more satisfactorily than the long-outdated edition.
