Book description

Irish people who sympathize with their country should be deeply interested in everything that has arisen with it over the past half century. Thus, in order to develop the most important period in the history of Ireland in this short period of time, we will return to 1798, a year and an era that should never be forgotten in the minds of every lover of their country. The calamities that swept the land of Erin and her green fields in a short span of several months will be described in the following sheets with precision and truth. Facts will be known that have not yet been discovered and that will surprise and touch every heart worried about the misfortunes of humanity, but especially those who are born on the same earth with themselves and who are abundant in generosity. Providence has bestowed blessings that have been tainted by the evil genius of the party - a strife permeated and engendered by the machinations of the designers. Every person who witnessed the scenes of 1798 and is still alive should shudder when he remembers the hardships and difficult visits that befell countless places and their inhabitants during that catastrophic era. The author of this work, although very young at the time (he was then 17 years old), had to make peace between the people and Generals Lake and Dundas on Whit-Monday 1798. The number of people gathered at Nocallen Hill, County Kildare, when this incident occurred, reached 6,000: the position of each person who appeared was extremely dangerous. A war broke out between the army and the people; several battles have already taken place, in some of which the troops of His Majesty were defeated, and in others the peoples were defeated and repulsed. All of them will be described in detail in a suitable place and time. Nothing can more effectively impress the minds of young people with prudence at all stages of life than examples like our little story. Love for the country is one of the national characteristics of the Irish, and love for information is a hallmark of the nobility of mind, which (as even foreigners admit) the Irish. Thus, to suffer from the development of facts so closely related to the affairs of Ireland, in one of the most interesting years in the annals of our country, to be inactive and inactive, would mean a numbness and indifference of the soul, which have no real home in the hearts of Irish people of either sex. It is argued that in order for all our compatriots to know what is proposed to be stated, nothing devoid of truth and justice will be allowed on our pages (as it should seem to every impartial reader). Every part and part of the Irish people, every sect and denomination, recognizes, after reading our work, that nothing of the party spirit manifests itself everywhere; that, on the contrary, the author wishes that peace, harmony and harmony could ever reign in this beautiful part of the globe; and that the present century and descendants may never again witness the repetition of the scenes of 1798.
