Every-Day Life in Korea: A Collection of Studies and Stories

In preparing this book, the author had in mind several categories of readers. The category included, among others, business people who love facts in compact form, women in missionary societies who are always ready to add to their fund of missionary information, and another class that is found in societies of young people who like information presented in narrative or illustrated form. There are always things of human interest such as knowing how other people live their lives and do their jobs in this world, especially if their experiences and surroundings are very different from our own. The following pages can be characterized mainly as a series of images of life in Korea - life in the old days, as presented by history, modern, everyday life, as seen by a Westerner living among Eastern peoples; a life influenced by the work of a Christian missionary; and, finally, the life of the missionary himself. However, in one respect, this book will differ from all previous volumes on Korea, namely, the proportion of pages devoted to the description of the missionary work of the country. Here it will be found that the work was historically traced from the very beginning, its versatile development was fully reflected, and at the end there was a chapter about that glorious, evangelistic, progressive movement that is taking place in the country, the spread of which continues, reminds field workers that they are very peculiar the image of "fellow workers with God."
