Book description

An Italian reader – is a work written by Antonio Marinoni, Professor of Romance Languages in the University of Arkansas. The main reason for creating this book is that American students lack satisfactory first reading material in modern Italian. The readers provided prior to the publication of this book in 1909 neglected the best contemporary sources at the time. This book is an attempt to fill the gap and provide an introduction to contemporary Italian literature at the time. This collection doesn't claim to be the best possible, but it's a selection of the best. Most of the readings are taken from the authors of the stories, but other literary forms have not been ignored. The text has been shortened slightly if necessary. For purposes of interest and information, the author has provided brief biographical and critical notes in relation to the submitted authors.
