A Treatise on the Valuation of Property for the Poor's Rate
Quantity
Book description
In England and Wales, the poor-rate is a property tax levied in each county that was used to help the poor.
This tax was levied under both the old Poor Law and the New Poor Law.
It was incorporated into the local tax system at a "general rate" in the 1920s and is the successor to the current municipal tax.
Poor rates in England and Wales in the 1820s and 30s increased so much and became such a burdensome property tax that the principles on which they were based and calculated were alarming.
Until the moment this book was written, no works appeared devoted exclusively to this subject.
Separate clauses on the responsibility of the property to the poor are not found in-laws; the most important ones are selected and combined with practical information within the framework of the project.
The most recent decisions on cases were collected and summarized at that time, and the author modestly tried to make this work useful for those interested in the management of parish concerns, and to evaluate the payers in general.
