Book description
This work is a translation of the treatise Chagigah (Hagigah) from the Babylonian Talmud, published in 1891 with introduction, notes, glossary, and indices by A. W. Streane.
The Talmud is the central text of Rabbinic Judaism and the main source of Jewish religious law (halakha) and Jewish theology.
The term "Talmud" usually refers to a collection of scriptures called specifically the Babylonian Talmud (Talmud Bavli).
Until the advent of modernity, in almost all Jewish communities, the Talmud was the centerpiece of Jewish cultural life and the basis of "all Jewish thoughts and aspirations", and also served as the "guide in the daily life" of the Jews.
"Hagigah" is a treatise in the Mishnah, Tosefta, Babylonian and Jerusalem Talmud, the last in the Moed section.
Contains the laws on the sacrifices that were to be made in the Temple of Jerusalem during the pilgrimage feasts.
At that time, no one, to the best of the author's knowledge, undertook to present any Talmudic treatise, including the Mishnah and the Gemara, in its entirety to the English reader.
Therefore, the author ventured to suggest that a work such as this may not be without interest.
Thus, this book does not consist of quotations, no matter how well they are chosen, but are a continuous whole.
