He was a chiropodist who was appointed as surgeon-chiropodist to the royal household in 1823 and served under Queen Victoria, George IV and William IV. Having published, several years before this publication, Treatise on Corns, Bunions, the Diseases of Nails, and the General Management of the Feet, which was met with the most favorable reaction from the medical press and specialists in general, the author was encouraged to prepare a second and popular edition of his great work. However, the present edition is not a simple reprint of the second; it has been significantly changed in form and layout.
