About the Book
First published in 1630, Archie Armstrong's Banquet of Jokes was so highly acclaimed by our ancestors that, over the course of thirty years, about nine or ten successive editions were printed. Although there are so many impressions, very few copies of these early editions seem to have survived in their diligent use by our forefathers two hundred and fifty years ago. It would seem that the copies were, so to speak, really eaten. And it is not surprising that a more amusing collection of bizarre stories and ridiculous fairy tales cannot be found either among the early or among the recent collections of this kind. His great rival, one hundred years later, the work published as Joe Miller's Book of Jokes, released in its original form, as genuine wit and fun cannot match the work of Archie. However, subsequently, in the course of successive editions, Joe Miller's book was significantly improved in this respect. Books in the Fairy Tales, Folklore and Mythology generally incorporate stories about interactions between humans (or humanoid gods) and imaginary deities, fairies, mermaids and witches; or imaginary beasts such as dragons, giants, and trolls. Fairy tales are mainly children's literature, but mythology dates back to ancient civilizations across the globe. Titles in this genre include: Myths and legends of British North America, Myths and Legends of the Mississippi Valley and the Great Lakes, The Heroes of Asgard: Tales from Scandinavian Mythology, Tales from Greek Mythology, Wonder tales from Scottish myth & legend, Essai sur la LÈgende de MÈlusine, and Lieder der Alten Edda. Deutsch durch die Brüder Grimm.
